First aid training, and how it can help your workplace

If you run a business, it’s likely that you’ve thought about first aid. Although not all workplaces are required to train first aiders, the training can be life-saving. Some of our team at Transcendit completed first aid training in June 2018, and a year on, we’ve been taking another look at the British Red Cross training and refreshing our knowledge.

‘Transcendit train first aiders every three years,’ says Director Adam Kuznesof. ‘We open up the training to everyone within the business. The more people we have trained up the better, because it means that even when someone is on holiday or is out with a client, we always have multiple trained first aiders in the offices.’

Transcendit’s first aiders are Andrew Richardson, Stefan Frizzel, Jonty Davis, Christophe Duhaut, Rebecca Harrison, Tom Tinsley, Katherine Bell, Adam Kuznesof, Dave Scott, Kate Johnson and Diane Pharoah. Employees can view which first aiders are available today on Time Booked, our staff holiday planner.

‘We don’t want to just meet the minimum requirements as a business,’ says Adam. ‘First aid training is about more than that - it has a huge number of benefits inside and outside of the workplace. You learn how to safely perform CPR, help someone who is choking, use a defibrillator - that’s a given. But you also teach people how to react in a crisis, to be more safety conscious. To react decisively and confidently during an emergency. First aid training doesn’t just help when accidents happen; it helps prevent accidents from happening.’

‘The training with the Red Cross was so comprehensive - I feel like we covered a huge amount in a fairly short amount of time,’ says Rebecca Harrison, Transcendit’s copywriter. ‘It’s such valuable information, and it’s taught in a way that’s so easy to understand. The certification is valid for three years, so those of us who completed the training are just approaching our first year of being qualified. I’ve completed the training with a previous job, and I’d do it again in a heartbeat. There’s no reason not to.’

The British Red Cross run a number of different first aid courses; some for high risk workplaces, as well as low risk workplaces. They range in length depending on the course content, and whether you’re legally required to have first aiders as a part of your workplace. The Emergency First Aid in the Workplace is a six hour course, and is designed for low risk workplaces - offices, and similar environments where the opportunity for accidents and injuries are fairly minimal.

The Emergency First Aid in the Workplace course includes training on aiding unconscious adults who are suffering from seizures or needs to be resuscitated, as well as conscious adults who are bleeding or wounded, and how to treat minor injuries. Attendees are also taught how to assess dangerous situations and act appropriately, as well as how to communicate efficiently during a crisis; with both fellow employees and the emergency services

The Transcendit Way

Transcendit understand that when you choose to work with us, whether we're taking care of your IT, app or web development, you're trusting us with part of your business. So whether we're looking after your computers, phone systems or servers we always do things 'the Transcendit way'.

The whole of our team adhere to the same values, beliefs and policies - the principles that were written when Transcendit first formed in 2000. Whether you come to us for cloud services or recovery backup you can be confident that you'll always receive the same excellent service.

The Transcendit way outlines how we do business; following the same straightforward principles with every client and customer, regardless of how big or small they may be.

That means we get to know you and your business. We offer you a friendly, professional and efficient service, and we'll always be honest with you.
We understand that not everybody speaks fluent IT, so we try to explain things in a way that is simple and clear. We always spend as much time as is necessary explaining things to you.
If you need to talk to us about something, no matter how insignificant, we are only ever a phone call away – and we’re never too busy to make you a cup of tea and have a sit down with you in person.
We understand how frustrating it can be when things are late. When we schedule an appointment with you, we are there when you’re expecting us. If something prevents us from getting there, we always call you in advance to let you know.
Sometimes things can go wrong, but we never lie to you or try to cover something up. If things go askew we tell you what’s happened and how we plan to prevent it affecting your business.
We want you to continuously benefit from working with us. We regularly discuss your business and make suggestions for improving systems and processes wherever we can – but we never try to push you into a purchase.
When we quote a fixed price, that's always the amount we charge – you won’t find any nasty surprises on a bill from us. If you are paying by time and materials, we inform you if our approximations could change.
We understand the importance of privacy for your business and your customers. We respect the confidentiality of your data, and we will never pass on your information to third parties.
We appreciate it when you take the time to give us feedback. A system called CustomerSure records our client's responses, so you can trust that our reviews are from real people.

Very friendly and helpful. Doesn't presume that you know much but at the same time doesn't speak to you as if you know nothing. Very pleased with my contact. Christine Gibbs, KSA Group Ltd
