The NASA Space Apps Challenge is returning to York this week, bringing together enthusiastic amateurs with professional developers to build apps to combat global environmental challenges.
The two-day event is held at the University of York on April 29th and 30th, with scientists, coders, developers, engineers and designers getting involved. Participants can take on any challenge within five topics; The Earth and Us, Planetary Blues, Warning! Danger Ahead!, Our Ecological Neighborhood and Ideate & Create!
Tech enthusiasts of all ages will then have to collaborate to create a solution to their chosen challenge, and can meet at the University of York or work remotely on their team's project. Each group can choose to create a traditional app for website or mobile, a concept or a hardware prototype.
At the end of the second day each team will have to present their creation to a jury of professionals and academics, who will then decide on a local winner to progress to the global level of the competition. Organisers hope that anyone who has an interest in app development signs up to the event.
Transcendit are proud sponsors of this year's Space Apps Challenge. Director Adam Kuznesof says, 'When competitions like the Space Apps Challenge choose the North East to host their events, it's really important that businesses show their support.'
'Sponsoring the Space Apps Challenge this year is a great way we can invest in the North East, and encourage local coders and programmers of all ages to hone their skills. We're really pleased that we can be a part of the competition this year, and wish everyone taking on the challenge the best of luck.'
