We might be approaching the end of summer, but that doesn’t mean we can’t go out with a bang. If you’ve ran out of activities to keep your little ones busy, or you’re looking for something fun to take them along to after they’re back at school, we’ve got you covered.
The Kids-Hub is a club for coding and robotics, ideal for children in primary school. Whether your kids are about to leave for secondary, or have just started in reception, there are classes available to get them programming and coding.
The lessons are 2 hours long, and they hold classes in different locations in and around the city, including Gosforth, Great Park and Gateshead. Kids-Hub provides everything from lego kits to iPads to help children build their creations, and then program them to life. Tickets start at £77 for six sessions, and are perfect if you’re looking to fill the rest of the holidays, or give your kids something to look forward to when school starts.
Little Bear at Centre for Life
The Centre for Life in Newcastle always has an amazing selection of activities for kids of all ages, and the Little Bear exhibit in their planetarium is no exception. This is a 10 minute planetarium show designed for children aged 7 and under, and is sure to inspire and amaze.
Little Bear is a story about a bear and their friend, who go stargazing in the night sky. They find a bunch of interesting animals, and eventually they find a bear, just like them. The Centre for Life is home to the North’s largest planetarium, and is also an accessible venue. This show is perfect for your little stargazers and scientists, and it is included in the price of your ticket, so you can see the show at no extra charge.
While you’re at the Centre for Life, you should definitely take a trip to the Making Studios. Again, this is included in the cost of your ticket, and is suitable for children aged 5 and upwards. The Making Studios is a building space where children can use cardboard, straws and other materials to create something completely new, either by themselves or as a team.
The Making Studios frame this event around science, engineering and inventors, and they’re also on hand to help, so this is perfect to get your kids interested in STEM. They even have different challenges that you can take on, like bridge building, and children are encouraged to take their builds home with them too. It’s a 30 minute activity, but if your little ones are extra creative, leave plenty of time.
This temporary event at Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens is running in September and October, and takes your children on a journey through some of the world’s most interesting and exotic plants. The event focuses on how to help protect the planet within our communities, and is suitable for children ages 4 and up.
This trail will lead children through the different things that negatively impact the planet, including our food, our fashion and our waste, as well as the things that we need to protect, like our wildlife and our water. Sunderland Museum’s Eco Trail will help children understand the importance of being environmentally conscious, as well as the best choices that they can make for the planet.
