Maildistiller has been acquired by Proofpoint and as a result ‘Proofpoint Essentials’, a new email security service dedicated to SMBs has been born. Going forward all communications and branding previously referencing Maildistiller will now be replaced by Proofpoint Essentials.
In April 2013 Maildistiller was acquired by Proofpoint, a California based email security company with multiple offices across the globe and over ten years expert experience in protecting email for some of the world’s largest enterprise corporations. Proofpoint’s acquisition of Maildistiller has now enabled the company to bring that expertise and technology to smaller enterprises through the newly created service ‘Proofpoint Essentials’. Even more exciting though is the fact that the acquisition will equip all previous Maildistiller customers with access to Proofpoint’s patented MLX™ machine learning technology which until now has only been available to enterprise customers. Proofpoint Essentials will provide the essential service and technology demanded by the SMB market.
A Shared vision for the channel
The acquisition of Maildistiller by Proofpoint, a market leader in the enterprise space, presents an exciting new service offering to current Maildistiller users across the globe. The combining of two email security companies is in itself extremely advantageous in comparison to the non-specialist acquisitions that often occur in the security market and frequently dilute the core product or service. Instead, Proofpoint’s acquisition of Maildistiller will further strengthen the company’s service capabilities. The joining of the technologies and teams has resulted in the launch of Proofpoint’s first cloud service specifically targeted at the SMB space. Proofpoint Essentials.
What this means for customers.
Access to enterprise level security focussed for SMB needs. Integrating Proofpoint’s core protection and privacy IP into Maildistiller’s purpose-built, multi-tenancy technology will enable the new Proofpoint Essentials service to provide SMB customers with an even more advanced email security service, solely focused towards your specific requirements and the security issues you face. Access to greater technology and resources means greater innovation, more features, and even higher levels of support for all.
Will Proofpoint Essentials differ from Maildistiller?
Proofpoint Essentials is a brand new service and as such will have various differences to the current Maildistiller service. However, the changes to be implemented are only to improve the service and enable it to better serve your email security needs. In the short term, Proofpoint Essentials will be similar to the current Maildistiller service with regards to the UI, features and easy provisioning options. The first technological change you will see will be the implementation of Proofpoint’s patented anti-spam and anti-virus technologies, which is currently in use today serving many of the world’s largest and most security conscious organizations such as Royal Mail and Bank of America. The second major change that will occur will be that the Maildistiller infrastructure will be supplemented by the Proofpoint global infrastructure and data centres. Proofpoint Essentials aims to be the ultimate email security solution for small and medium size businesses, so we will continue to add to and improve the service in order to achieve and maintain this position.
