Meet our new support engineer, Michael

This month we've welcomed Michael Wilson, who is joining our IT support team. We caught up with Michael to find out more about him, and how he got into IT.

'When I was leaving school, I wanted to be a mechanic or an IT technician, ' says Michael. 'The only reason that I'm not a mechanic is because an IT apprenticeship came up first.'

Michael decided to move to Australia to pursue a career in IT, and worked near Brisbane for a few years, 'I was an onsite technician, which is an amazing job when you've just moved to a new country. I was travelling out to people's homes and their businesses, sorting out their IT and exploring the country at the same time.'

Eventually took a job with a different IT company, and moved to Northern Queensland. 'That was really different because it's just mountains near the city , then desert everywhere else,' says Michael. 'It was mostly remote work with some onsite work. Eventually though, I started missing my family and wanted to get back home to the UK.'

'I worked for a couple of companies up here as a support engineer, and that was strange because I realised how small the country was. But I still felt the pull to travel, and I ended up exploring Scotland for a few months. When I finally got back into work, I was in retail for a bit, but I missed the problem solving aspect of IT.'

Now he's started at Transcendit, Michael is working towards his Microsoft MD100 and MD101 qualifications, 'MD100 is about working with Windows 10, and exactly what it can do for clients and businesses,' says Michael. 'MD101 is about managing modern desktops, which is more geared towards this support role. It's great to be back in IT, the knowledge has all come back really quickly.'

In his spare time, Michael likes riding motorbikes, and is looking forward to buying his next one, 'I didn't think I would ever ride motorbikes, because the weather in the UK is so cold and wet - but as soon as I'm riding it doesn't bother me. Within a week of owning my first bike I rode to Melbourne, that was two 12 hour days. I toured all around Australia. It was amazing.'

Michael is also into stunt riding, 'The best bike I've ever had is the Honda GROM 125CC, that's when I got into stunting. The parts are cheap to replace which is perfect - at one point the headlight was duct taped on and the indicators were held on by zip ties. I love stunting because you have to practice getting total control of the bike - otherwise you're going to crash!'

The Transcendit Way

Transcendit understand that when you choose to work with us, whether we're taking care of your IT, app or web development, you're trusting us with part of your business. So whether we're looking after your computers, phone systems or servers we always do things 'the Transcendit way'.

The whole of our team adhere to the same values, beliefs and policies - the principles that were written when Transcendit first formed in 2000. Whether you come to us for cloud services or recovery backup you can be confident that you'll always receive the same excellent service.

The Transcendit way outlines how we do business; following the same straightforward principles with every client and customer, regardless of how big or small they may be.

That means we get to know you and your business. We offer you a friendly, professional and efficient service, and we'll always be honest with you.
We understand that not everybody speaks fluent IT, so we try to explain things in a way that is simple and clear. We always spend as much time as is necessary explaining things to you.
If you need to talk to us about something, no matter how insignificant, we are only ever a phone call away – and we’re never too busy to make you a cup of tea and have a sit down with you in person.
We understand how frustrating it can be when things are late. When we schedule an appointment with you, we are there when you’re expecting us. If something prevents us from getting there, we always call you in advance to let you know.
Sometimes things can go wrong, but we never lie to you or try to cover something up. If things go askew we tell you what’s happened and how we plan to prevent it affecting your business.
We want you to continuously benefit from working with us. We regularly discuss your business and make suggestions for improving systems and processes wherever we can – but we never try to push you into a purchase.
When we quote a fixed price, that's always the amount we charge – you won’t find any nasty surprises on a bill from us. If you are paying by time and materials, we inform you if our approximations could change.
We understand the importance of privacy for your business and your customers. We respect the confidentiality of your data, and we will never pass on your information to third parties.
We appreciate it when you take the time to give us feedback. A system called CustomerSure records our client's responses, so you can trust that our reviews are from real people.
