We’ve had a few calls this month about some vanishing Windows apps - specifically, the Office applications. Don’t panic, those apps haven’t gone anywhere, but they are looking a little different recently.
Microsoft have done a quick redesign on the office icons, which is why a few users have got confused about where Word has wandered off to. A whole host of these applications have been given a bit of a lift, so the apps that you’re used to using like Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Skype and Teams could look a little off on your desktop.
Although this update is being rolled out, it’s not happened to all machines overnight; so if this hasn’t happened to your desktop icons yet, it is on the way. Although we haven’t got an exact date for this, Microsoft has informed users that it will be in the coming months.
This might seem like a weird alert from Microsoft, but if you’re used to seeing a certain icon for your email and that image vanishes, it’s understandable that you might assume the app has vanished with it.
If you’d like to check out these sparkly new icons, watch the above video from Microsoft. Don’t panic, your computer hasn’t been infected with some terrible ransomware that is systematically deleting all the apps you love - it’s the same old Office 365, with a new look.
