Our techie gift guide for 2018 - what we've been buying, and what we want under the tree

Stuck for what to get someone for Christmas? Has the tech addict in your life got every gadget going? Check out our gift guide, which has our team's top purchases this year, as well as the presents they hope to find under the tree.

Rebecca Harrison

Best buy: My best purchase was Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban on Gamecube, I got it from Cex for £5 for my younger brother. It's one of the better Harry Potter games, before they turn them into magical Call of Duty. Great if someone your buying for is Harry Potter obsessed, and desperate for nostalgia.

All I want for Christmas is: A Nintendo Switch, for the sole purpose of playing Legend of Zelda, Breath of the Wild. As soon as I've played the game I'll return the console - there are literally no other Switch games I'm interested in playing.

We found Nintendo Switch for £269.99 at Game

Dave Scott

Best buy: I've got two best buys for the family - a Playstation 4.  This was for my son Harry but it is also used quite a bit by the whole family for watching catchup TV. Also a Sonos sound speaker.  Coupled with our family Spotify accounts this is a revelation.  Quality is superb and it even sounds great stuck behind objects like a TV...bless it.

All I want for Christmas is: Christmas came early for me as I was recently looking for some decent wireless headphones.  The Beats Studio 3 wireless headphones I bought are top notch.  The noise cancelling is really effective; I can be watching something on Netflix whilst they are watching something emotive like X-Factor without hearing a great deal of their noise!

We found Beats Studio3 Wireless Headphones for £247 at Amazon

Paul Callaghan

Best buy: a magnetic decision maker, for the indecisive person in your life. It's a kind of pendulum which is augmented by a few magnets to make it move in interesting ways. Great for those impulsive spenders and reckless fools! Also great for teaching ones' kids about magnetic fields and chaotic behaviour.

All I want for Christmas is: I'll settle for an automatic Mah Jong table. It's a table that collects all the tiles for Mah Jong games, and shuffles them for you while you're playing another game. It literally doesn't do anything else.

We found this weird table thing for $600 at Alibaba.com

Helen Littlewood

Best buy: This portable charger, combined with this cable. The lead means that my battery charger can charge any device. It's not as useful as it once was, thanks to the better batteries on newer iPhones - but it makes me very popular on nights out with friends when their phones die! How else would we get selfies for insta?

All I want for Christmas is: a glass desk that is also my super computer with pretty lights too! Just because it is super cool! I hope this doesn’t ruin my cool exterior where I pretend not to be as geeky as the rest…

We found a pc case desk for £1,476.43 at ThisIsWhyImBroke.com

Dave Kennedy

Best buy: It's between Hello World by Hannah Fry, it's a book about algorithms and how machines and humans would act differently in certain situations. It was shortlisted for the 2018 Royal Society Investment Science Book Prize and 2018 Baillie Gifford Prize. Also, the Lenovo USB-C Laptop Power Bank. Its 14000mAh, compact & comes with cables to allow it to provide extra juice to machines with either rectangle or USB-C power connectors.

All I want for Christmas is: Assuming money is no object here? The Lenovo Yoga Book C930 (Dave really likes Lenovo)

We found the Lenovo Yoga Book C930 for £1049.99 at Lenovo.com

The Transcendit way outlines how we do business; following the same straightforward principles with every client and customer, regardless of how big or small they may be.

That means we get to know you and your business. We offer you a friendly, professional and efficient service, and we'll always be honest with you.
We understand that not everybody speaks fluent IT, so we try to explain things in a way that is simple and clear. We always spend as much time as is necessary explaining things to you.
If you need to talk to us about something, no matter how insignificant, we are only ever a phone call away – and we’re never too busy to make you a cup of tea and have a sit down with you in person.
We understand how frustrating it can be when things are late. When we schedule an appointment with you, we are there when you’re expecting us. If something prevents us from getting there, we always call you in advance to let you know.
Sometimes things can go wrong, but we never lie to you or try to cover something up. If things go askew we tell you what’s happened and how we plan to prevent it affecting your business.
We want you to continuously benefit from working with us. We regularly discuss your business and make suggestions for improving systems and processes wherever we can – but we never try to push you into a purchase.
When we quote a fixed price, that's always the amount we charge – you won’t find any nasty surprises on a bill from us. If you are paying by time and materials, we inform you if our approximations could change.
We understand the importance of privacy for your business and your customers. We respect the confidentiality of your data, and we will never pass on your information to third parties.
We appreciate it when you take the time to give us feedback. A system called CustomerSure records our client's responses, so you can trust that our reviews are from real people.
