Director Tom Tinsley will be taking part in the Great North Run on September 11th for the Children's Heart Unit Fund (CHUF).
Tom loves running, and trains regularly with The Claremont Road Runners. He estimates that he has completed 'somewhere in the region of seventeen' Great North Runs. This year he is running for CHUF, to raise money for the fantastic work they do supporting children who are born with, or develop heart conditions.
'The work that CHUF do is absolutely essential,' says Tom. 'They don't only support the children and young people with these conditions, but they also provide their families with any support they need, for as long as they need it.'
The Children's Heart Unit at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle is one of only two units in the UK that can offer pediatric transplants and bridge to transplant operations. The unit regularly treats critically ill babies and children from across the UK.
Director Dave Scott has a personal relationship with CHUF, 'The original charity was set up by my mum. After we formed Transcendit we wanted to be associated with a charity - and because of my connection with CHUF it seemed like the best choice. We've been working with them ever since.'
'CHUF is a huge part of our community,' says Tom. 'But it goes beyond Newcastle - it changes lives up and down the country. It's a really wonderful charity, and I'm very proud to support them.'
