We might be looking at the end of summer, but there are a ton of events happening in and around Newcastle, Gateshead and the North East. If you’re looking for something to do, or you need a new idea for date night, check out some of these awesome events and venues.
At the time of writing, these events are running. However, we’d encourage anyone interested to check out the venues and events in advance, as covid restrictions may result in cancellations.
For an outdoor date night: The Cumberland Arms
Feeling a bit worried about heading indoors? That’s not a problem at the Cumberland. Over lockdown they’ve been running events on their terrace, with everything from classical concerts, to rock music, to comedy and poetry. They release their events at the beginning of each month, and there really is plenty to choose from; perfect for changing up your date night.
If you’d like to book for an event at the Cumberland, drop them an email at cumbybookings@gmail.com. Events vary in price, but The Cumberland does run ‘pay as you feel’ events on occasion.
For those missing a festival: This Is Tomorrow
If the past couple of summers you’ve been desperate to hear some live music, Newcastle has got you covered. This Is Tomorrow is a three day festival running from Friday 17th September to Sunday 19th September in Exhibition Park. Over the three dates, they have artists like Sam Fender, Pale Waves, Dermot Kennedy, Bugzy Malone, Gerry Cinnamon and The Kooks.
You can book tickets on their website, which are £49 for the day or £129 for the weekend. There is also a special event on Thursday 16th September, This Is For The NHS. All profits from this event go towards Newcastle and Northumbria NHS.
For when the heavens open: Bobiks
If you’re looking for a date night that isn’t weather dependent, or you’re just sick of sitting outside, Bobiks is a great little venue which hosts everything from music, comedy, theatre, cinema, pottery and even guitar workshops. They have some great events coming up in September, including songwriter and rap artist Kay Greyson, art rock collective Dilettante, and comedian Lauren Pattinson.
Book tickets on the Bobiks website, and then head to the Punch Bowl Hotel in Jesmond for your event. Make sure you leave time for a pint!
For those wanting some history: Gateshead History Festival
From the 9th to the 23rd September, Gateshead Libraries are running the Gateshead History Festival, with a ton of different events for you to choose from. Expect talks from debut novelists and researchers, on topics such as Women of Tyneside in the Second World War, The Lives of Manuscripts and Their Makers, African Lives in Northern England and even guided walks around graveyards in Gateshead.
You can purchase tickets from Gateshead Libraries eventbrite. Most events are between £3 and £5, and you can get a discount if you attend a couple of the events.
